Well, the internet is still a little frustrating here but I've managed to type out an overview for ye while sitting in my cottage.
An overview of last week:
Monday: Culture class with Jane Marie and we learned some Irish words and phrases. I haven’t quite grasped everything that is being thrown at me because it’s sounds. Sounds, they’re just sounds. And if you’ve seen Easy A, you’ll hopefully get that movie reference. I haven’t been taught how to write or pronounce very clearly. She’s kind of teaching us backwards. After the first hour, we went on a walk into Spiddal and learned a lot about what the history is, and it was very interesting. I won’t bore you with a virtual, documented tour of Spiddal. But there are lots of pictures that I would be more than happy to explain the history to you. I might make up some of the dates to make myself sound smarter than I actually am, but most of the back story will be true.
Tuesday: Tuesday was History with Laurence. I think I’m just gonna leave it at this: I hope this Tuesday it’s easier to stay awake in class. Then we had people over to our house and had a party. It was awesome, only it wasn’t a real party. We played card games and group games. Then, at 9pm John Paul opened up the pub at the Park Lodge and we got crazy; just kidding, we didn’t get crazy. It was fun though, John Paul gave us shots fo free to try out the different liquors. Okay, so he only gave us two shots, but it was still awesome.
Wednesday: Literature...with a wee bit of History. Actually, a lot of history, like a recap of Irish History over the last 400 years. I don’t know if this is “needless to say” or not, but my head may or may not have almost hit the desk once or thrice. Then, we read a play and it was funny. I’m not really into literature, so this will be a learning experience. Then we probably went on a walk. Yes, we did go on a walk. Molly’s journal confirms it. We went on a “shortcut” which actually turned into a “longcut” but it was way worth it. There was a donkey, and all of my cottage mates and I quoted Shrek so that was special. Then we went to Supermac’s...or as Molly prefers to call it, “Smackems”. Supermac’s is the Irish equivalent to McDonald’s. The food was alright, but it was expensive. So it wasn’t good enough to spend $12USD on...probs won’t be going back to “Smackems” for a good while. On a lighter note, we watched a good hour of Beyonce music videos while eating our food, so that was awesome. For a good time, YouTube “Video Phone”. LOL #weird

Thursday: We went to Galway to go on a medieval tour of the ancient city of Galway. We ate lunch at The Kings Head and I had a 100% Irish beef burger. Twas good, not my fav. Had a chicken sandwich later on in the week that I’ll tell you about...so keep reading...While in Galway we did group shopping and bought all sorts of good stuff.

Friday: Friday we don’t have class...so we slept in and then got up around 1pm. After our late “morning” we walked on what I thought would be a “short” walk...but low and behold, it was a “long” walk. Sense a pattern here? I’m beginning to. We walked down to a beach and there was seaweed everywhere, but we walked right through it and down to Bikini Bottom. Kidding, lol. Spongebob doesn’t live in Ireland...but actually Spongebob was on Irish TV and he spoke Irish. So he might...idk. Then, at 6pm we got a bus into Galway to “experience the night life” as John Paul said. And let me just say, we experienced the night life.
Saturday: It’s Molly’s birthday! She’s 23, she can’t sing Taylor Swift’s song anymore. I can, cuz I’m still 22. Saturday was a lazy POS day. Movies, on movies, on movies.
Sunday: We went into Galway and went to church at the Cathedral and then walked around and shopped. Which is my nightmare. So I did my shopping and then John and I went to have a pint at a pub. Sunday funday? No, just living the Irish culture. Sunday evening I tried to use the internet, but that was all but worthless. And here comes the chicken sandwich. It was a Cajun chicken burger and it was fantastic. My favorite meal yet. I don't have a picture, except the mental one. But trust me, it was grand.
Monday (today): We had Jane Marie’s class, and we learned a whole slew of new words in Irish that I’ve already forgotten. After class we came home and made tuna noodles, and opened up our curtains to let the sun in because it was SUNNY today. Around 3pm, Molly Sarah John and I decided to walk down to the ocean and hang out for a bit and Molly got some really awesome pictures. Some homework should probably be done, but it can wait until the last minute.
Hopefully, I will be able to keep up a little better so I don't have to bombard ye with my weekly overviews. If you'd like to know more, or would like to chat about something I've written about feel free to email me. But if you just want to talk, don't text me that's gay (*movie reference*). No, but seriously you can text me. Only if you have an iPhone. If not, message me on Facebook.
Here's an Irish sunset for you to be jealous of! ;) |
